We are delighted to share that the hybrid application for Bewley Homes at Watermill Bridge, Newbury (Basingstoke and Deane BC), has recently been allowed at Appeal. In allowing the Appeal, the Inspector gave significant weight in his decision to the provision of both market and affordable new homes in the face of the Council failing to maintain a minimum five-year housing supply.
The scheme not only includes 270 new homes (82 of which were submitted in detail), a community building, health centre and convenience store, but also provides 20% biodiversity net gain across the site. It is set within over 12 hectares of natural and accessible open space (over 50% of the site) comprising a riverside park, an integrated ecological SuDS pond, community allotments, play areas and over 2 km of new footways and cycleways, incorporating an enhanced network of existing trees.
