First look

We are excited to share some images of our recently completed project in Whitechapel, East London, on behalf of Mount Anvil. The Silk District is located on the site of a former warehouse and draws inspiration from the area’s fascinating past – from ancient homesteads to the location of London’s first playhouse. The challenge was to honour this heritage while creating something bold and contemporary for the diverse community of Whitechapel.

The result? A vibrant new public realm with pedestrian-friendly streets, lush green spaces and a sense of connection, that invites both residents and the public to come together. Our close working with archaeologists to preserve and reinterpret key historical elements really makes this project special and ensures the story of this site is revealed to all.

The Silk District acts as a bridge between Whitechapel’s rich history and its exciting future. We can’t wait to see how the community embraces it.
