South Berkhamsted is growing

Congratulations to our client Taylor Wimpey on securing outline planning permission for Land South of Berkhamsted. This sustainable urban extension delivers some 742 homes, green infrastructure and a local centre, underpinned by a strong landscape and visual strategy that includes:

• A sensitive building heights approach respecting the ridgetop location and the setting to the Chilterns National Landscape
• Retention and enhancement of woodland with substantial edge planting
• Restoration of historic parkland within the setting of Grade II* Ashlyns Hall
• 65% over-provision of public open space, designed to respond to site features and the Green Belt beyond
• A new sports hub, featuring a 3G pitch, padel courts, MUGA and a community pavilion.

The project is a great example of a design solution which is shaped by, and responsive to, the surrounding landscape. We provided landscape planning and landscape design inputs for the application, working in collaboration with the fantastic project and client team.
