Supporting the next generation of placemakers

At fabrik, we’re passionate about creating opportunities for young people to explore careers in urban design, landscape architecture and masterplanning. Supporting the next generation of designers and placemakers is an important part of who we are, and we’re always delighted to welcome students into our studios to experience life at fabrik.

Last week we were pleased to host Noah for a week of work experience. With a keen interest in Art and Geography, Noah spent the week working alongside our masterplanning team, developing new skills in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and SketchUp, while gaining an insight into the creative thinking, technical knowledge and collaboration that underpin the design of successful places.

Reflecting on his week, Noah said:

“For the past week I was lucky enough to have my work experience with fabrik and, in short, it has been incredible. My favourite subjects in school have always been Art and Geography, and this experience embraced those interests perfectly. I learned how to use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and SketchUp, while also discovering the many considerations involved in planning a town. Although it was challenging at times, everyone was incredibly supportive, especially Nic and Freya, who helped me every step of the way. The whole team was so welcoming and I’m really grateful for the opportunity. I hope to come back one day and would highly recommend fabrik to anyone considering work experience.”

We’re incredibly proud of the supportive culture we’ve built across our studios, and it was fantastic to see Noah embrace every opportunity, ask thoughtful questions and grow in confidence throughout the week.

A huge thank you to Noah for bringing such enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity to the team, and to Nic and Freya for mentoring him throughout the week. We wish Noah every success as he moves into Year 11 and hope this experience has inspired him to continue exploring a future in design and placemaking.
