We are delighted that Willow Walk at Osiers Road has been Highly Commended in the Planning for Affordable Housing Category at the 2023 Planning Awards. The scheme is a successful partnership between Hollybrook Homes and Peabody, and provides 100% affordable homes to meet local housing need. It sits in the Wandsworth Riverside Quarter, which has undergone significant regeneration over the past 10 years.
Time to celebrate
The key challenge was how to knit into a recently developed tight urban fabric and optimise the delivery of high quality homes and flexible workspaces, whilst giving back 40% of the site to public realm. The scheme achieves this through understanding and complementing the existing site’s characteristics and strengths, by using high quality robust materials, increasing tree canopy cover, using innovative SUDs to deal with rainfall and weaving aspects of the local history into public artworks. Sculptures designed by Simon Periton and scattered through the site, evoke memories of the willow weaving history of this riverside location.
The development not only meets the highest standards of design quality and sustainability for its residents, but also enhances the quality of life for commercial occupiers on the lower floors and other residents in the area, who benefit from the pedestrianised walkways, seating areas, leafy courtyards and play space.
The design and delivery of the scheme is a collaboration between Rolf Judd Architecture, Rolf Judd Planning, Burwell Architects and fabrik, and the recognition serves as a testament to the dedication, hard work and commitment of our practices.
