After 20 years, Founding Director Johnny Rath has sold the business to its employee team as it becomes a 100% Employee Owned Trust.

As we look to the future, we will be able to pursue our mission more than ever – to design and build better places, and to improve the physical and mental health of the communities through engagement with sustainably designed and natural landscapes.

Johnny Rath, the Founding Director said: “In mid-2021, I decided to sell the controlling interest in fabrik to an Employee Owned Trust. This happened late last year, and in so doing, I have both transferred ownership of the company to fabrik’s employees and given legal backing to the company’s values and mission, and to one of our long-standing and most central principles: building a company which respects and values its people”.

Key to Johnny when he established fabrik, was a focus on the people who work there. Our core values prioritise the principle that first and foremost, we respect and value the people who work for us. Building on this approach, we have developed a set of Enduring Values, to ensure we capture everybody’s voice in what the business represents going forward.

fabrik will also be developing a Company Charter, giving everyone a say in how our business is run and responsibility for its success. It will set out our commitment to what we hold dear and what is special about how we work. It will describe our collaborative culture and the principles that guide us, including our purpose and how we engage with our clients and the wider world.

fabrik has been hugely fortunate in 20 years of trading to have worked with many incredibly talented and generous people, who are all part of the fabrik story to date. Our success is based entirely on the skills, commitment and loyalty of those people. This has allowed us to appoint a new Operating Board from within the business of experienced and long-serving staff, supported by emerging talent for the future, giving us a solid, dynamic and forward-looking management team. The Operating Board will be supported by Johnny Rath as the Chair of the Trustee Board and Company Secretary.

We would like to thank all our colleagues past and present, clients, fellow consultants and the businesses that support us in our day-to-day working, who have been instrumental in our 20-year journey to date. We would also like to thank Baxendale Employee Ownership for their support in helping us all to move forward to this incredibly exciting future for the business.
