Last week we spent the day with Homes England, WSP and Meeting Place discussing masterplanning, ecology and transport planning with year 8 geography students at The Maplesdon Noakes School in Maidstone. They came up with some great suggestions on how to improve health and wellbeing, what a town needs to include, ideas on the adjacencies of different land uses and how to protect and enhance nature.
We were inspired by the students’ creativity, enthusiasm and thoughtful approach to placemaking. Their ideas reinforced the importance of involving young people in shaping the future of their communities, bringing fresh perspectives on sustainability, inclusivity and the everyday experiences that make places healthier, happier and more resilient for everyone.
