Shaping healthy communities

Members of our team recently attended the Landscape Institute’s From Evidence to Impact: Delivering Healthy Urban Development conference, an inspiring event that brought together voices from across the built environment, health sector, academia, local and regional government, policy organisations and community groups.

The conference explored how robust evidence can be translated into meaningful action, helping to ensure that health and wellbeing are embedded throughout the planning, design and delivery of places. Discussions highlighted the growing importance of collaboration across disciplines and the need to strengthen the links between research, policy and practice.

A diverse programme of presentations and panel discussions examined topics ranging from the relationship between urban planning and community health to the future of housing, wellbeing and place-making. Speakers also explored how the design of towns and cities, alongside transport and public realm infrastructure, can encourage active travel, support healthier lifestyles and create more resilient communities.

For our team, the event provided a valuable opportunity to hear from leading researchers, practitioners and decision-makers, sharing practical insights into how evidence can inform policy, shape investment decisions and demonstrate the long-term value of healthy urban development.

The themes discussed closely align with fabrik’s commitment to creating sustainable, people-focused places where health, wellbeing and environmental quality are considered from the outset. As the evidence base continues to grow, events such as this play an important role in helping the profession turn knowledge into measurable outcomes for communities.

Our thanks go to the Landscape Institute, Healthy Urban Places and Born in Bradford teams for hosting such an engaging and thought-provoking event.
