Creating places where people belong

Communities are shaped by the places they share.  Successful placemaking is about far more than buildings and infrastructure, it is about understanding people, celebrating identity and creating environments that encourage connection, wellbeing and belonging.  At fabrik, we believe every place has its own character.  Our role is not to impose a vision, but to reveal and strengthen the qualities that make each place distinctive.  Through collaboration, listening and thoughtful design, we create places that people value today and continue to care for tomorrow.

Understanding place

Every project begins by understanding its context.  We explore the history, landscape, culture and aspirations of a place to inform design decisions that are rooted in local identity. This creates environments that feel authentic rather than interchangeable.  Whether working within existing communities or creating entirely new neighbourhoods, our aim is always to create places that feel connected to their surroundings and capable of evolving over time.

Collaboration creates better places

The best ideas emerge through collaboration. We work alongside clients, local authorities, consultants, stakeholders and communities throughout the design process, recognising that every voice adds value.  Engagement is not simply a stage in the planning process, it is an opportunity to build consensus, uncover local knowledge and develop proposals that respond to genuine needs.  This collaborative approach also reflects who we are as a practice. As a 100% employee-owned business, every member of our team has a shared responsibility for our work and our future. Diverse perspectives, open dialogue and mutual respect allow us to challenge ideas constructively and deliver stronger outcomes for our clients.

Wellbeing by design

Landscape has a profound influence on health and wellbeing.  The places we design encourage walking, play, relaxation, social interaction and contact with nature. Safe streets, welcoming public spaces and accessible green infrastructure help build stronger communities while improving everyday quality of life.  By considering wellbeing from the earliest stages of design, we create places that support healthier lifestyles and foster long-term resilience.

Inclusive by nature

Inclusive design is fundamental to good placemaking.  We believe everyone should be able to experience and enjoy the places we create regardless of age, ability or background.  This means designing spaces that are accessible, welcoming and adaptable while recognising the diversity of the communities they serve.  By creating places where everyone feels represented and included, we strengthen the social fabric that allows communities to thrive.

Community in practice

From neighbourhood masterplans and civic spaces to regeneration projects and educational campuses, our work seeks to create places that bring people together.  Strong communities do not happen by accident, they grow from thoughtful planning, meaningful engagement and design that reflects the identity of the people who use it. Landscape provides the setting for everyday life. Our role is to ensure that setting is memorable, inclusive and enduring.
