What a journey

What a journey

Friday 19th June marks Employee Ownership Day, led by the Employee Ownership Association – an organisation we are proud to be part of.

Whilst fabrik was established in 2003, we became employee-owned in October 2022, marking a significant milestone in our journey. It represented much more than a change in business structure; it marked a change in how we work together.

We adopted a model that actively gathers the voices of everyone across the business and translated them into our Charter – our shared ethos built around the core values of nature, community and vitality. These values now shape our Operational Plan and help guide the decisions we make every day.

It has certainly been a journey. We have found a balance between governance and day-to-day operations, learned how to combine purpose with commercial success and created an environment where constructive challenge is welcomed. Through positive critique and open dialogue, we’ve turned ideas into meaningful improvements across the business.

We’ve increased our Employee Ownership Trust bonus year on year, strengthened engagement across our studios, created more opportunities for colleagues to influence the direction of the practice and built a culture where everyone has a genuine stake in our success.

We remain early in our Employee Ownership Trust journey and are still very much a work in progress, but the direction of travel is clear. Our business is stronger because more people are involved in shaping it, and we’re seeing the benefits of collaboration, shared responsibility and collective ownership every day.

On Employee Ownership Day, we’d like to thank everyone at fabrik for helping to make our business what it is today. Together, we’re building not only better places for our clients and communities, but a better business for everyone who is part of it.
